This expert roundtable – organized with the Stimson Center with the support of the UN Foundation and Global Challenges Foundation – offered an opportunity to offer proposals and recommendations for the consideration of the HLAB and the Secretary-General’s implementation of the Our Common Agenda report. It was organized around three sets of questions:
- What are the major challenges the multilateral system faces today in developing effective regimes to govern/ensure equitable distribution of the environment, financial systems, health, and security? Are there common issues across these areas that could be considered as endemic to today’s international order?
- What models and approaches to global governance have proven most effective at overcoming these challenges? Are there experiences/examples that have helped to address the problems of jurisdiction, participation, incentives, and/or information? What are the concepts and innovations that could help the HLAB produce new proposals?
- What specific recommendations and proposals should the HLAB consider as it develops its report? What pathways should these proposals take to maximize their chances of taking hold in the system?
The event was chaired by Dr Adam Day (UNU-CPR).
